Richmond, East Sheen, Kew, Ham and Petersham (TW9, TW10) are a straightforward drive along the A307 or a short train hop, so most patients are scanned and given a written plan on the same first visit in most cases.
The old image of varicose vein treatment, a general anaesthetic, vein stripping and a week off your feet, has been replaced by minimally invasive techniques done through a needle under local anaesthetic. A fine fibre or catheter is passed into the faulty vein under ultrasound guidance and seals it from the inside, so blood reroutes through healthy deeper veins. Most people walk out the same day and return to normal activity quickly.
UK guidance from NICE (CG168) sets a clear order of preference for treating varicose veins caused by reflux: endothermal ablation first (endovenous laser, EVLA, or radiofrequency ablation), then ultrasound-guided foam sclerotherapy if endothermal isn’t suitable, and open surgery only if neither is appropriate. Endothermal techniques close the treated vein in well over 90% of cases and are performed awake, under local anaesthetic, without a hospital admission. The clinic is at 46–48 Wood Street, Kingston upon Thames, KT1 1UW. From Richmond town centre it is around 15 minutes by car via the A307 (Petersham Road / Kingston Road) past Ham, or a short rail journey to Kingston followed by a five-minute walk. East Sheen and Kew patients come in via the South Circular and A307. Parking is available at the nearby Bentall Centre and Sopwith Way car parks.

Your history, examination, duplex ultrasound and, where appropriate, your treatment are carried out by a consultant on the GMC Specialist Register for Vascular Surgery. Same-day scanning means most Richmond patients with straightforward disease leave with a written plan after one visit; where deep venous or arterial disease is suspected, a dedicated scan may still be needed and will be arranged. Initial consultation with duplex ultrasound is £365 (one leg) or £520 (both legs) self-pay, with no GP referral required.

No. Endovenous treatments are performed awake, under local anaesthetic, as a day case. You walk in and walk out, with no overnight stay.
Most people return to everyday activity quickly after endovenous treatment, often the same or next day, with walking encouraged. Your consultant gives you tailored aftercare on the day.
