Excessive underarm sweating, or hyperhidrosis, is a recognised medical condition. A short course of small injections can reduce underarm sweating for months at a time. At KONCEPT® the treatment is prescribed and performed by Dr Maryam, a GMC-registered doctor, after a medical consultation.
Consultation £150, redeemable against your treatment.
How common
Primary underarm hyperhidrosis affects nearly 3 in 100 people
How long it lasts
Commonly around 6 to 7 months, often longer with repeated treatment
What it treats
A recognised medical condition, not simply heavy sweating
Prevalence and treatment-duration figures from the International Hyperhidrosis Society and peer-reviewed studies (see references in the page schema). Individual results vary, and the effect is temporary.
Hyperhidrosis is sweating beyond what the body needs to regulate temperature. When it affects the underarms it can soak clothing, interfere with work and social life, and be difficult to control with antiperspirants alone. It is a genuine medical condition rather than a cosmetic concern, and it responds well to treatment.
The treatment uses small injections of a prescription-only medicine placed across each underarm. The medicine temporarily reduces the nerve signals that activate the sweat glands in that area, so it sweats far less. UK rules do not allow clinics to name prescription-only medicines in public information, so you will see the treatment described this way. Your doctor explains exactly what is used at your consultation.
This treatment uses a prescription-only medicine, which by law must be prescribed for the individual patient. At KONCEPT®:
This page covers underarm (axillary) sweating, treated by Dr Maryam in the aesthetics clinic. Sweating of the palms and soles is managed by our vascular surgery team on a separate pathway, as it is approached differently. If your main concern is your hands or feet, tell us and we will direct you to the right clinician.

History and assessment, and a check that the sweating suits this treatment.
The active area of each underarm is identified so the injections are placed where they are needed.
A series of small injections across each underarm, usually taking only a short time.
Sweating reduces over the following days. The treatment is repeated when it gradually returns.
Consultation £150, redeemable against your treatment. Because the effect is temporary, treatment is repeated when sweating returns. See the complete aesthetic price list.
Excessive sweating can affect confidence, clothing choices and daily life, and it is reasonable to seek help for it. Because your care here is led by a GMC-registered doctor, the consultation also checks that this is the right treatment for your pattern of sweating. Occasionally heavy sweating can be a sign of another condition, particularly when it is generalised, sudden, or mainly at night, and in that case the doctor will guide you on what to look into first rather than simply treating.
Hyperhidrosis is excessive sweating beyond what the body needs to cool itself, and the underarm is the most common area affected. The treatment is a series of small injections of a prescription-only medicine into the underarm, which temporarily reduces the nerve signals that switch on the sweat glands, so the area sweats much less. UK rules do not allow clinics to name prescription-only medicines in public information, so you will see it described this way.
For most people underarm treatment reduces sweating for around six to seven months, and sometimes longer. The effect can last longer with repeated treatments over time. When sweating gradually returns the treatment can be repeated. Your doctor will advise a realistic interval for you.
A series of small injections is given across each underarm with a fine needle, with numbing used where helpful. Most people find it manageable and return to normal activities the same day. Some tenderness or small bruises can occur and settle quickly.
Performed by a doctor after assessment, the treatment has a long record of use for underarm sweating. It is generally avoided in pregnancy and breastfeeding, with certain neuromuscular conditions, with infection at the area, or with a known allergy to a component. Your doctor checks suitability at your consultation.

Sweating that is generalised, started suddenly, happens mainly at night, or comes with other symptoms should be checked by your GP first, as it can occasionally point to another medical cause. Long-standing underarm sweating in someone who is otherwise well is well suited to this treatment. Your doctor will help you decide.
