Why a medical-grade laser suits men

What that means for your treatment

  • Coarse, dense hair responds well. Men's back and chest hair is often a good target for laser, treated as a course of 8 for the best result.
  • A true laser, not IPL. The dual-wavelength Candela GentleMax Pro Plus treats fair and dark skin safely by matching the wavelength and settings to your skin type.
  • Doctor-led and CQC-registered. A GMC-registered doctor assesses your skin and hair and sets the plan, with a test patch before your first session.
  • Comfortable. Built-in skin cooling makes larger areas such as the back more comfortable to treat.

Safe for darker skin tones

The Candela GentleMax Pro Plus includes the Nd:YAG 1064 nm wavelength, which passes more safely around skin pigment, so we can treat darker skin tones effectively where many older single-wavelength and IPL devices cannot. A doctor confirms your Fitzpatrick skin type and runs a test patch before your first treatment.

Frequently asked questions

Does laser hair removal work on men's coarse back and chest hair?

Coarse, dark hair on the back and chest often responds well to laser. Because the hair is dense, these areas usually need a course of 8 rather than 6, and results vary between individuals. A doctor sets a realistic plan at your consultation.

How many sessions will I need?

Most areas need 6 to 8 sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. Coarse, dense areas such as the back and chest usually need a course of 8, with occasional maintenance sessions afterwards.

Can you shape my beard line rather than remove the whole beard?

Yes. We can tidy and shape the neckline and cheek line, or reduce density, rather than remove the full beard, and we agree exactly what to treat at your consultation. Treatment near the face is planned carefully because fine facial hair needs the right settings.

Is laser hair removal for men safe on darker skin?

Yes, when the right laser and settings are used. The Candela GentleMax Pro Plus combines Alexandrite 755 nm and Nd:YAG 1064 nm, so it treats all skin tones, Fitzpatrick I to VI. A doctor assesses your skin type and runs a test patch at least 48 hours before your first treatment.

How much does men's laser hair removal cost?

Full back starts from £230 a session, or from £1,470 for a course of 8. Chest, shoulders, beard-line shaping and full body are on the laser hair removal price list. The consultation is free and a £50 redeemable patch test applies before your first session.

Are there any risks or side effects?

Laser hair removal is well tolerated. Temporary redness or mild swelling around the follicles is normal and usually settles within hours. In a small number of people, most often with certain skin and hair types or fine facial hair, laser can stimulate finer hair rather than reduce it (paradoxical hypertrichosis). A doctor-led assessment and correct settings are how we reduce this, and we discuss it and take your consent before treatment.
