Who we see

When should you see a private cardiologist in Kingston?

See a cardiologist if you have chest pain or tightness, palpitations, breathlessness, dizzy spells or high blood pressure, or if you want a specialist opinion on your heart risk. A consultation at KONCEPT® starts with your history and an examination, then any tests you need are arranged here in the clinic.

Chest pain and tightness

Assessment of chest pain that comes and goes, chest tightness on exercise, and pain you are unsure about, to work out whether it is coming from the heart.

Palpitations and an irregular heartbeat

A racing, pounding, fluttering or irregular heartbeat, or a feeling of missed beats. An ECG and a Holter monitor can record the rhythm while it happens.

Breathlessness and ankle swelling

Getting out of breath more easily than you used to, or breathlessness with ankle swelling, assessed for heart related causes.

High blood pressure (hypertension)

Confirming a raised reading with 24 hour ambulatory monitoring, looking for causes and agreeing a treatment plan with you. Read about high blood pressure

We also see patients with dizziness or blackouts, a family history of heart disease, raised cholesterol, and people who want a specialist opinion on an abnormal ECG or test result from elsewhere.

Private medical insurance

Does health insurance cover a cardiology appointment?

Health insurance often covers a cardiology consultation and heart tests if your policy includes outpatient cover, so please check with us before you book. Many private medical insurance policies, including those from BUPA, AXA Health, Aviva, Vitality and WPA, include outpatient cover for a specialist consultation and diagnostic tests such as an ECG, a Holter monitor or 24 hour blood pressure monitoring, when they are needed to investigate symptoms. Cover depends on your own policy, your outpatient limit and whether the condition started before your policy did.

For your insurer to pay directly, both the clinic and the cardiologist usually need to be recognised by that insurer. Dr Ameer Al-Bassam is recognised by Aviva, Vitality and WPA. His recognition by BUPA is being arranged, so until it is confirmed a BUPA patient may need to pay the consultation fee as self pay, and we will tell you before you book. KONCEPT® is recognised by BUPA for most of our blood tests and diagnostic tests, so please call us to confirm your test is covered before you book.

  1. Ask your insurer or your GP for an open referral to a cardiologist, and get a pre authorisation number.
  2. Call us on 020 8129 1011 with your insurer and policy number before booking.
  3. We confirm what your policy covers at KONCEPT®, then book your appointment.

If your insurer does not cover your visit here, you can be seen as a self pay patient, and we provide an itemised invoice if your policy allows you to claim back.

Questions

Private cardiologist in Kingston: questions patients ask

Do I need a GP referral to see a private cardiologist?

No, not if you are paying for yourself. You can book directly. If you are using private medical insurance, most insurers ask for a GP or open referral and a pre authorisation number first.

How much does a private cardiologist cost in Kingston?

A new patient consultation with the cardiologist at KONCEPT® costs £200, and a follow up consultation costs £150. Tests are priced separately, each with the report included: a 12 lead ECG is £119, a 24 hour Holter monitor £295, 24 hour blood pressure monitoring £225 and an echocardiogram £450. Your price is confirmed in writing before you book.

What heart tests can I have in Kingston?

At KONCEPT® in Kingston you can have a 12 lead ECG, a 24 hour Holter monitor, a 72 hour or 7 day heart monitor, 24 hour blood pressure monitoring and an echocardiogram (heart ultrasound), each with a report, plus heart blood tests such as cholesterol, ApoB, Lp(a) and HbA1c. You can book a test on its own, or see the cardiologist first if you are not sure which test you need.

Who is the cardiologist at KONCEPT®?

Heart tests with the cardiologist in Kingston

Can I book an ECG on its own in Kingston?

Yes. A 12 lead ECG with a report from our cardiologist takes about 10 minutes, and you can book it without a consultation. Call 020 8129 1011 to book.

How long do ECG and Holter results take?

An ECG is recorded in about 10 minutes and the report from our cardiologist usually follows within a few working days. A Holter monitor is worn for 24 hours or longer, and the report follows once the recording has been analysed. Your cardiologist goes through the results with you.

If my ECG is normal, is my heart healthy?

A normal ECG is reassuring, but it only records your heart for a few seconds, so it can miss rhythm problems that come and go, and it does not show every type of heart condition. If you still have symptoms, your cardiologist may suggest a Holter monitor, an echocardiogram or other tests.

Can I have an echocardiogram in Kingston?

Yes. Echocardiograms (heart ultrasound) are carried out here at KONCEPT® in Kingston and reviewed by your cardiologist, who goes through the results with you. A self pay echocardiogram costs £450, and no GP referral is needed if you are paying for yourself.

Insurance and heart monitors

Does BUPA cover an ECG or Holter monitor?

KONCEPT® is recognised by BUPA for most of our blood tests and diagnostic tests. Many BUPA policies with outpatient cover pay for heart tests such as an ECG or Holter monitor when they are needed to investigate symptoms, within your outpatient limit and usually with a referral and pre authorisation. Call 020 8129 1011 with your membership number before booking and we will check what applies to your policy.

Which insurers recognise the cardiologist at KONCEPT®?

Dr Ameer Al-Bassam is recognised by Aviva, Vitality and WPA, and his recognition by BUPA is being arranged. For tests, KONCEPT® is recognised by BUPA for most of our blood tests and diagnostic tests. Call 020 8129 1011 with your insurer and policy number before you book and we will confirm your cover.

What is a Holter monitor and does it hurt?

A Holter monitor is a small portable ECG recorder connected to stickers on your chest. It does not hurt. You wear it while you carry on with normal life, then return it so the recording can be analysed.

Why would I need 24 hour blood pressure monitoring?

Blood pressure measured in a clinic can be higher than your usual level. Ambulatory monitoring takes readings through the day and night, and NICE guidance recommends it to confirm a diagnosis of high blood pressure before treatment starts.

More questions about the cardiologist in Kingston

What is a normal blood pressure reading?

As a general guide, an ideal blood pressure is between 90/60 and 120/80. NICE guidance treats a clinic reading of 140/90 or higher, or a 24 hour average of 135/85 or higher, as high blood pressure. If your readings are often above 120/80, a 24 hour blood pressure monitor gives a clearer picture than a single reading.

How does a private cardiology test compare with a smartwatch ECG or a home blood pressure monitor?

A smartwatch or home monitor can be a useful prompt to seek advice, and you are welcome to bring your readings. A clinic ECG records 12 views of the heart rather than one, a Holter or 24 hour blood pressure monitor records through day and night, and each recording at KONCEPT® is interpreted by our cardiologist who can examine you and act on the result.

When should I go to A&E instead?

Call 999 for chest pain lasting more than a few minutes, pain spreading to the arm, jaw or back, sudden severe breathlessness, fainting, or a racing heartbeat with chest pain or dizziness. A clinic appointment is for symptoms that are not an emergency.

Which areas do you see patients from?

The clinic is at 46 to 48 Wood Street in central Kingston upon Thames, opposite Kingston station. Patients come from Surbiton, New Malden, Wimbledon, Richmond upon Thames, Putney, Teddington, Hampton, Esher, Cobham, Walton on Thames, Thames Ditton, Twickenham and across Surrey and South West London.

KONCEPT® Medical Clinic is registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC). Medical Director Dr Maryam Attarzadeh (GMC 7193218). Page medically reviewed by Dr Maryam Attarzadeh, 29 October 2026.
