A heart blood test for men in Kingston, for a focused cardio-metabolic baseline. The panel covers HbA1c, fasting glucose, the full lipid profile and liver enzymes, with fasting insulin added where clinically indicated. It is the right starting point if you have a family history of heart disease or type 2 diabetes, a midlife waistline you want to act on, or simply want one panel that tells you where you stand on the two biggest preventable risks for men. Reviewed by a GMC-registered doctor at our CQC-registered Kingston clinic, with results in 2 to 5 working days.

Heart disease and diabetes account for a large share of preventable male mortality in the UK and the two are clinically connected: pre-diabetes raises cardiovascular risk before glucose reaches the diabetic range. The figures below are presented as context, not as a prediction of any individual's risk.
A heart blood test is a focused cardio-metabolic baseline. It identifies pre-diabetes and lipid patterns early, when lifestyle change still has the largest effect, and informs whether further work-up (such as the Advanced Cardiovascular Risk panel with Lp(a) and ApoB) is appropriate.
Cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes share most of their risk factors and are the two biggest preventable causes of ill-health in adult men. This panel covers the routine blood markers that drive both: HbA1c and glucose for sugar control, the full lipid profile for cholesterol, and liver enzymes (ALT, AST) for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, which is closely linked to insulin resistance. Fasting insulin is added when there is a clinical indication. It is the right starting point if you have a family history, a midlife waistline you want to address, or simply want one panel that tells you where you stand.
If your concern is a deeper cardiovascular risk picture beyond the standard markers (ApoB, Lp(a), hs-CRP, Lp-PLA2, homocysteine), the Advanced Cardiovascular Risk panel (£338) is the next step up. If you want the cardio-metabolic markers as part of a broader baseline including the male hormone axis, the Men's General Health & Wellness panel may suit better.
The three-month average of blood sugar. The most sensitive routine screen for pre-diabetes and type 2 diabetes, per NICE CKS guidance. Unlike fasting glucose, HbA1c does not need fasting.
A morning fasted glucose alongside HbA1c picks up acute changes and helps confirm an impaired fasting glucose pattern. The two are read together.
The aggregate cholesterol level, the starting point for cardiovascular risk assessment.
The protective cholesterol fraction. Low HDL is associated with higher cardiovascular risk.
The cholesterol fraction most directly linked to atherosclerosis. The standard target of cardiovascular risk reduction.
A reflection of dietary sugar and alcohol, raised in insulin resistance and a useful pointer to wider cardio-metabolic disturbance.
Total cholesterol minus HDL. NICE-recommended primary marker for cardiovascular risk and treatment monitoring.
ALT and AST screen for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), now better called metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), which sits squarely in the metabolic risk picture and is the most common cause of mildly raised ALT in middle-aged men.
Added where insulin resistance is clinically suspected. Read alongside fasting glucose to look at HOMA-IR, an index of insulin resistance. Not added routinely.
Each result is interpreted by the doctor against the appropriate reference range for you. NICE risk calculators (QRISK) combine blood markers with age, blood pressure and lifestyle for a 10-year cardiovascular risk estimate; the doctor can apply this to your results.
Cardio-metabolic risk is rarely a single-decision moment. Three routes give you control over how much support you want around the result.
A GMC-registered doctor at KONCEPT® reviews the request for clinical suitability before the appointment is confirmed.
Cardiovascular risk and diabetes risk share most of their drivers. This panel covers all three in a single venous draw so the doctor can see the picture.

Most cardio-metabolic results are addressed first with lifestyle change (diet, exercise, alcohol, weight, smoking) and reassessment after 3 to 6 months. Where treatment is indicated, the doctor can discuss options and either refer or share the result with your NHS GP for ongoing management. Lifestyle gains in this area are substantial; small consistent changes typically move the markers meaningfully.

Men with a family history of heart disease or type 2 diabetes, men in their midlife years wanting a focused cardio-metabolic baseline, men starting a lifestyle change who want a before-and-after, and any man who wants one panel that tells him where he stands on the two biggest preventable risks.

Yes. Fast for 10 to 12 hours (water only) before the test. This is important for accurate fasting glucose and lipids. Keep taking any prescribed medication unless your doctor tells you otherwise. Stop biotin supplements 48 to 72 hours before.

QRISK is the NHS-validated 10-year cardiovascular risk calculator. It combines blood results with age, blood pressure, family history and other factors to give a percentage risk estimate that guides whether to consider preventive medication. The reviewing doctor can apply QRISK to your results on request.
Raised cholesterol is interpreted in the context of your QRISK score. Most cases are addressed first with lifestyle change and reassessed; medication (typically a statin) is considered where overall risk justifies it, per NICE CKS guidance. The reviewing doctor will outline the options in the outcome note.
Pre-diabetes (HbA1c 42 to 47 mmol/mol) is a strong signal for lifestyle intervention. The NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme and lifestyle change can return many men to normal HbA1c. Repeat HbA1c in 6 to 12 months is typically recommended.
No. You can book online, in person, or add the panel during a GP consultation at KONCEPT®.
Home-kit heart packages are often cholesterol-focused, with HbA1c and liver enzymes as separate add-ons. At KONCEPT® the panel is a venous draw with all markers in one visit, reviewed by a GMC-registered doctor. Review and outcome note included in the £279 panel price.
The NHS provides comprehensive care and remains the right route for many men. KONCEPT® complements that care for men who want a focused cardio-metabolic baseline in one visit on their own timing.
