The Candela GentleMax Pro Plus includes the Nd:YAG 1064 nm wavelength, which passes more safely around skin pigment, so we can treat darker skin tones effectively where many older single-wavelength and IPL devices cannot. A doctor confirms your Fitzpatrick skin type and runs a test patch before your first treatment.
No. Between sessions you shave the area as normal, and we ask you to shave the area the day before each session. There is no regrowth phase as with waxing, which is the main reason many men switch.
A full back session typically takes 30 to 45 minutes. Sessions run 4 to 6 weeks apart, and coarse, dense areas such as the back and chest are usually treated as a course of 8, with occasional maintenance afterwards.

Often, yes. NHS advice on ingrown hairs lists a long-term way of removing hair, such as laser treatment, among the things that help, alongside changing how you shave. An ingrown hair happens when a shaved hair curls back into the skin and the follicle becomes inflamed. The NHS notes this is more likely if you have coarse or curly hair, and that the neck, face, chest and back are common sites. Reducing how much hair grows in an area reduces how much can grow back into the skin.
The British Association of Dermatologists notes that laser and intense pulsed light can reduce hair growth for prolonged periods, and that in dark skin there is a high risk of the skin becoming lighter or darker afterwards. Laser hair removal is well tolerated. Temporary redness or mild swelling around the follicles is normal and usually settles within hours. In a small number of people, most often with certain skin and hair types or fine facial hair, laser can stimulate finer hair rather than reduce it (paradoxical hypertrichosis). A doctor-led assessment and correct settings are how we reduce this, and we discuss it and take your consent before treatment.
