12 lead ECG
Your heart rhythm and electrical activity at rest, in about 10 minutes
Often used for palpitations, chest pain, dizziness, checks before treatment
24 hour blood pressure monitoring measures your blood pressure through a normal day and night, which is the way NICE recommends confirming high blood pressure. At KONCEPT® Medical Clinic in Kingston it costs £225, including a report from our cardiologist, Dr Ameer Al-Bassam.
24 hour blood pressure monitoring, also called ambulatory blood pressure monitoring or ABPM, uses a cuff on your upper arm connected to a small recorder on your belt. The cuff inflates by itself at least twice an hour while you are awake and less often while you sleep, so your readings come from a normal day rather than a single moment in a clinic.
This gives a truer picture of your blood pressure. It shows whether readings are only high in a clinic (white coat hypertension), only normal in a clinic (masked hypertension), and whether your blood pressure falls as it should at night.
You might need to wear a 24 hour blood pressure monitor if a reading in a clinic, pharmacy or at home was high. NICE guidance recommends offering ambulatory monitoring to confirm high blood pressure when a clinic reading is between 140/90 and 180/120.
To confirm or rule out high blood pressure before starting treatment for life.
Readings that are high with a doctor or nurse but normal at home, known as white coat hypertension.
To see whether your blood pressure medicines are working through the whole day and night.
Dizziness on standing, kidney disease, diabetes, or readings that vary a lot.
Fitting takes about 15 minutes at KONCEPT®. You wear the monitor for 24 hours and bring it back the next day.

NICE uses the average of your daytime readings. A daytime average below 135/85 means high blood pressure is not diagnosed. A daytime average from 135/85 to 149/94 is stage 1 hypertension, and 150/95 or higher is stage 2 hypertension.
Dr Ameer Al-Bassam reviews your daytime and night time readings and writes a report explaining what they mean for you and what to do next. With your consent, we send a copy to your NHS GP, who usually manages long term blood pressure treatment.
24 hour blood pressure monitoring is the test for high blood pressure. An ECG and an echocardiogram can show whether high blood pressure has put a strain on your heart, and a Holter monitor is for palpitations that come and go.

24 hour blood pressure monitoring at KONCEPT® in Kingston costs £225. The price includes the fitting, the 24 hour recording, a report from our cardiologist and a fixed price confirmed in writing.
Many private medical insurance policies cover 24 hour blood pressure monitoring when it is needed to investigate symptoms, if your policy includes outpatient cover. For your insurer to pay, the clinic and the cardiologist usually both need to be recognised by that insurer, and most insurers ask for a GP or open referral and a pre authorisation number first.
Please call 020 8129 1011 with your insurer and policy number before you book, so we can confirm your cover in writing. If you pay for yourself, no GP referral is needed.
Every 24 hour blood pressure recording made at KONCEPT® is reported by Dr Ameer Al-Bassam, a specialist and interventional cardiologist on the GMC Specialist Register for cardiology, who also works in the NHS at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
