A bone health test for men in Kingston, covering Vitamin D, Calcium, Phosphate, the full Urea & Electrolytes panel and Liver Function Tests in a single venous draw. Built around the bone-relevant biochemistry the doctor would want before discussing bone density, supplementation or onward DEXA referral. Reviewed by a GMC-registered doctor at our CQC-registered Kingston clinic, with results in 2 to 5 working days.

Bone disease in men is under-tested, under-recognised and often only diagnosed after a fragility fracture. The figures below give UK context. They are presented as background, not as a prediction of any individual's bone health.
The bone-relevant blood test is the first step, not the diagnosis. It identifies reversible contributors (low vitamin D, abnormal calcium handling, kidney or liver patterns that affect bone metabolism) and informs whether a DEXA bone density scan is the right next step.
Men's bone health is often overlooked, but men account for around one in five hip fractures in the UK and male osteoporosis is under-diagnosed (NHS, Royal Osteoporosis Society). The Men's Bone Health panel is a sensible blood-level baseline of the minerals and vitamin that most directly affect bone, plus the kidney and liver biochemistry that should be interpreted alongside them. It works well when bone health is a family concern, after a low-impact fracture, before starting bone-active treatment, after a long course of steroids, or simply as part of a midlife review.
A blood test is one part of a bone-health workup. Bone-density measurement (DEXA scan) and clinical assessment remain the cornerstone of an osteoporosis diagnosis; this blood panel checks the reversible biochemical contributors and is an excellent starting point. If you have already had a DEXA scan and need treatment monitoring, share the report at booking and the doctor will interpret your bloods in that context.
The most common reversible cause of low bone density in the UK. Vitamin D deficiency reduces calcium absorption and over time weakens bone. Easily corrected with supplementation once identified.
The principal bone mineral. Read alongside albumin (adjusted calcium) and vitamin D for the most accurate picture. Persistently raised or low calcium needs investigation.
Works with calcium and vitamin D to maintain bone mineralisation. Phosphate is also a useful marker of kidney handling of minerals.
The full kidney function panel. Kidney function influences how the body handles vitamin D, calcium and phosphate, so kidney biochemistry should be interpreted alongside the bone markers.
The full liver panel. Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP) in particular is also a bone-turnover enzyme; raised ALP can reflect either liver or bone activity, so the full LFT pattern helps the doctor interpret it correctly. Albumin is needed to calculate adjusted calcium.
Each result is interpreted by the doctor against the appropriate reference range for you. This panel is a biochemistry baseline; for osteoporosis diagnosis you may also need a DEXA scan, which is not a blood test.
Bone health is rarely a one-and-done conversation. Depending on whether you want the result interpreted in isolation, alongside a GP appointment, or inside a fuller men's health review, there are three routes in.
A GMC-registered doctor at KONCEPT® reviews the request for clinical suitability before the appointment is confirmed.
The bone markers cannot be read in isolation; this panel includes the full kidney (U&Es) and liver (LFT) biochemistry in a single venous draw so the doctor can interpret them in context.
Bloods are drawn in our CQC-registered Kingston clinic by an experienced practitioner. Samples are processed by an accredited UK pathology laboratory.
Booked online without a referral, subject to availability. The clinic is opposite Kingston Station, with parking nearby at the Bentall Centre.
A short outcome note is sent to your email, password-protected. It states either normal, no follow-up needed, or that a GP review is recommended (NHS GP at no NHS charge, or KONCEPT® GP consultation at £149).
If you would like a GP to discuss your results and direct further investigation (such as DEXA imaging), book a 30-minute KONCEPT® GP consultation (£149).

The NHS provides comprehensive care and remains the right route for many men. KONCEPT® is designed to complement, not replace, that care, for men who want a bone-relevant biochemistry baseline on their own timing. Where helpful, we share results with your NHS GP for continuity, particularly important for ongoing bone-health management.
| Standard NHS approach | What KONCEPT® adds | |
|---|---|---|
| Booking and access | Via your registered NHS GP, subject to local appointment availability and clinical prioritisation. | Book directly without a referral. Same-day, Saturday and out-of-hours appointments at the Kingston clinic. |
| Scope of first-line bone testing | Bone-relevant blood tests are typically requested when there is a clinical concern, per NICE CKS guidance on osteoporosis. A standalone biochemistry baseline is not always offered unless clinically indicated. | Vitamin D, calcium, phosphate plus the full U&Es and LFTs in one panel as a proactive baseline. |
| Time with the reviewing doctor | Length of GP consultation varies by region and provider. | A 30-minute consultation with a GMC-registered doctor is offered alongside the panel for men who would like one. |
| Onward specialist input | Referral routes for DEXA imaging and endocrinology vary by region, specialty, clinical urgency and provider. | The reviewing doctor can refer to private DEXA imaging or endocrinology, or support continuity with your NHS GP. |
| Cost | Free at the point of use. | All-in £238 (£199 test fee plus the one-off £39 administration fee). |
NHS provision varies by region and clinical context, and the NHS pathway remains appropriate for many patients. KONCEPT® encourages continued NHS GP involvement and shares clinical summaries with your NHS GP on request.
Online, in person, or added during a GP consultation. Each request is reviewed by a GMC-registered doctor for clinical appropriateness.
An experienced practitioner takes your sample in-clinic. Fasting is not strictly required but morning samples are preferred. Stop biotin supplements 48 to 72 hours before.
Samples are processed by an accredited UK pathology laboratory.
Most results within 2 to 5 working days. A short outcome note is sent securely to your email, password-protected.
If everything is normal, the outcome note confirms no follow-up is needed. Where vitamin D is low, supplementation can be advised straight away. If the doctor recommends imaging (DEXA scan) or specialist input, you can be referred privately or asked to discuss with your NHS GP, depending on what you prefer.

No. Osteoporosis diagnosis is based on bone-density measurement (DEXA scan) and clinical risk assessment. This blood panel covers the reversible biochemical contributors to bone loss, identifies vitamin D deficiency and provides a baseline kidney and liver biochemistry that should be interpreted alongside any imaging.
Fasting is not strictly required for these markers, but a morning sample is preferred. Stop biotin supplements 48 to 72 hours before.
Most results within 2 to 5 working days, sent securely to your email, password-protected.
Vitamin D deficiency is common in the UK and is usually corrected with supplementation. The doctor will recommend a regimen in the outcome note. Repeat testing is typically done after 3 months to confirm restoration.
Long-term oral steroid use is a recognised risk factor for bone loss, per NICE CKS guidance. Please discuss with the prescribing doctor and consider this panel alongside DEXA imaging.
No. You can book online, in person, or add the panel during a GP consultation at KONCEPT®.
