Laser skin treatment relies on a principle called selective photothermolysis: a specific wavelength of light is chosen so that it is absorbed mainly by one target in the skin, the brown pigment melanin or the red haemoglobin inside a blood vessel. That target converts the light to heat and breaks down, while the surrounding skin is largely spared.
The GentleMax Pro Plus combines two clinically established wavelengths in one device, which is why a single platform can address several different concerns:
Every pulse is paired with the Dynamic Cooling Device (DCD), a burst of cooling delivered a fraction of a second before the laser fires, which protects the surface of the skin and improves comfort.
Laser and light-based treatments for pigmentation and vascular concerns are well described in the dermatology literature and recognised by professional bodies. The figures below are drawn from published sources and presented as typical findings, not a promise of any individual result.
Facial thread veins
~97% clearance (Nd:YAG series)
Rosacea prevalence
~5% of people
Discrete marks
Often 1 to 3 sessions
Skin tones
Fitzpatrick I to VI
Sun spots, age spots and other superficial brown marks (solar lentigines) absorb the 755 nm wavelength strongly. The pigment is heated and broken down, then cleared by the skin over the following days. Many discrete spots respond within one to three sessions. Melasma is a distinct, hormone and sun-influenced condition assessed separately.
From £195 a session
The 1064 nm wavelength targets the haemoglobin behind facial redness, so it is used for the persistent redness and flushing associated with rosacea. Discrete vessels often respond in a small number of sessions; diffuse redness is managed with a planned course. Facial thread veins, broken capillaries and spider veins are assessed and treated collaboratively across our dermatology, laser and vascular teams, with the right approach chosen for you at your consultation, see facial thread veins & broken capillaries.
From £195 a session
Controlled laser heating of the deeper skin prompts a natural healing response that stimulates collagen and elastin, supporting gradual improvements in tone, texture and the appearance of fine lines over a course, a gentle form of non-ablative laser skin resurfacing.
From £275 a session
Laser can help reduce the redness left behind by acne, but active acne and deeper textural scarring are often better addressed with other treatments. A doctor can direct you to the most appropriate option, including medical-grade chemical peels, microneedling, or dermatology-led acne care.
Because melanin in darker skin absorbs laser energy, some older single-wavelength and IPL devices are less suitable for skin types IV to VI. The Candela GentleMax Pro Plus includes the Nd:YAG 1064 nm wavelength, which passes more safely around skin pigment and lets us tailor vascular and rejuvenation treatment across Fitzpatrick skin types I to VI. A doctor confirms your skin type and runs a test patch before your first treatment.
Melasma is a common, chronic pigmentation, usually on the cheeks, forehead and upper lip, driven by a combination of hormones, sun exposure and heat. It behaves very differently from the discrete sun spots that laser lifts well, and it is prone to coming back.
Because the Candela GentleMax Pro Plus is a long-pulsed laser, it is well suited to defined sun spots and to vascular marks, but it is not the right tool for melasma. In melasma-prone skin, heat and high-energy light can trigger rebound pigmentation or post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, so we do not treat melasma with this laser by default. The light-based approach with the strongest evidence for melasma uses a different, low-energy device, and even then it is used cautiously and as part of a wider plan.
For that reason, recognised guidance treats melasma first with daily sun protection and topical treatment, with any device-based option considered carefully and case by case. At KONCEPT® a doctor assesses your skin and sets the safest plan rather than reaching for the laser, which is the difference between a medical clinic and a laser-only provider. Laser skin treatments at KONCEPT® start from £195 a session. The right number of sessions depends on the concern, its size and depth, and your skin type, so your exact plan and price are confirmed at your free consultation. Most concerns are treated as a single session or a short course, with the price per session lower on a course.

Skin rejuvenation is treated as a course for a cumulative result: face from £275 a session, or £1,320 for a course of 6 (£220 a session); face and neck £350 a session, or £1,680 for a course of 6 (£280 a session). Maintenance sessions are available afterwards if needed.
The consultation at KONCEPT® is free, where many clinics charge a consultation fee that is only redeemable against treatment, and your £50 patch-test deposit is redeemed against your first session. Every treatment is carried out in CQC-registered premises and overseen by a GMC-registered doctor, with the laser settings matched to your skin rather than a fixed protocol. Prices are a guide, confirmed at your consultation.

Laser skin treatment is gradual and cumulative. Pigmented marks typically darken briefly before they lift over the following days; vascular marks fade as treated vessels clear; rejuvenation builds over a course as collagen responds. Results vary between individuals, and ongoing sun protection is essential to maintain them. A doctor gives you a realistic picture for your skin at your consultation.
Laser skin treatment is well tolerated, and most side effects are short-lived, such as temporary redness, mild swelling, or a brief darkening of treated pigment before it clears. Less common effects include temporary lightening or darkening of the skin, particularly in darker or recently tanned skin, which is why wavelength selection, correct energy settings and a prior test patch matter.
The laser targets pigment and blood vessels, so it works best on defined brown marks and visible vessels; very faint, deep or diffuse concerns may respond less predictably and are discussed honestly at consultation. We do not treat over suspicious or changing moles, which are referred for dermatology assessment and, where appropriate, skin cancer screening. We do not treat during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Recent sun exposure, active tan or self-tan, and certain medications or skin conditions can affect suitability and timing, and are reviewed before you begin.
We use the Candela GentleMax Pro Plus for superficial pigmentation and sun damage such as sun spots and age spots, for facial redness and visible vessels including rosacea-related redness and thread veins, and to support skin rejuvenation and the appearance of fine lines. Active acne, deeper scarring and some types of melasma are assessed individually and may be better suited to complementary treatments, which a doctor will discuss with you.
Laser skin treatments at KONCEPT® start from £195 a session, with the exact price depending on the concern, the size of the area and the number of sessions. Many discrete marks and small vessels are treated in a short course, and your plan and price are confirmed at your free consultation. A £50 redeemable patch test applies before your first session.
The laser delivers a specific wavelength of light that is absorbed mainly by a target in the skin, melanin in a brown mark or haemoglobin in a blood vessel. That target heats and breaks down while the surrounding skin is spared, a principle called selective photothermolysis. For rejuvenation, controlled heating of the deeper skin prompts a natural healing response that stimulates collagen.
It can be, when the right wavelength and settings are used. The 1064 nm Nd:YAG wavelength passes more safely around the pigment in darker skin, which allows treatment to be tailored across Fitzpatrick skin types I to VI. A doctor assesses your skin type and carries out a test patch at least 48 hours before your first session. Some older single-wavelength and IPL devices are less suitable for darker skin.
It depends on the concern. Discrete sun spots and small facial vessels often respond within one to three sessions. Diffuse redness, rosacea and skin rejuvenation are usually planned as a course with periodic maintenance, because they are ongoing concerns managed over time. Your doctor sets a realistic plan at your consultation.
Most patients find it comfortable. The Dynamic Cooling Device cools the skin a fraction of a second before each pulse, which protects the surface and reduces discomfort. Most laser skin treatments have little downtime; you can expect some redness and, for pigmented marks, a temporary darkening before the spot lifts over the following days. Sun protection afterwards is essential.
Yes, for the redness and visible vessels. Laser does not cure rosacea, which is a chronic condition, but it can reduce the persistent facial redness and flushing, with results maintained by occasional follow-up sessions, usually a planned course rather than one treatment. Because rosacea affects an estimated 5% of people and can have inflammatory features, a doctor can also advise on medical management alongside laser. Treatment for facial redness starts from £195 a session, confirmed at your free consultation.
Usually not with this laser. Melasma is a chronic, hormone, sun and heat-driven pigmentation that behaves differently from sun spots and is prone to recurrence. The Candela GentleMax Pro Plus is a long-pulsed laser suited to discrete sun spots and vascular marks, and in melasma-prone skin heat and high-energy light can trigger rebound pigmentation, so we do not treat melasma with it by default. A doctor assesses your skin and usually recommends sun protection and topical treatment first, with any device-based option considered carefully and case by case.
Treated sun spots are cleared by the skin, but new pigmentation can form with further sun exposure, and some conditions such as melasma are prone to recurrence. Daily broad-spectrum sun protection is the single most important step in keeping your results, and your plan will include aftercare advice.
Treated brown marks usually darken first, then flake or fade over the following one to two weeks as the skin clears the pigment. Most discrete sun spots improve noticeably within one to three sessions, with the fullest result seen once a short course is complete. Results vary with the type of mark and your skin, and consistent sun protection afterwards protects the result.
It can if the wrong device or settings are used, or if the pigmentation is actually melasma, where heat and high-energy light can trigger rebound pigmentation or post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, particularly in darker or recently tanned skin. This is exactly why treatment here is doctor-assessed, the wavelength and energy are matched to your skin type, a test patch is carried out first, and melasma is assessed separately rather than treated by default.
Laser skin treatment is well tolerated. Temporary redness or mild swelling is normal and usually settles quickly. Less common effects include temporary lightening or darkening of the skin, particularly in darker or recently tanned skin, which is why wavelength selection, correct energy settings and a prior test patch matter. We do not treat over suspicious or changing moles, and we do not treat during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
